The Sidney De Haan Research Centre in the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Social Care holds a distinguished record of arts for health and wellbeing research projects and activities. We are expanding the SDHRC portfolio across creative and performing arts (theatre, music, and digital arts etc) for a wider range of health conditions with a special interest in children, young people and young adults’ mental health and disabilities. We have excellent partnerships across the Kent, Surrey, and Sussex regions and beyond, which are supported by active participation with stakeholders and service users at all levels of the Faculty. Our emerging portfolio of international activity, research, knowledge exchange, and scholarly work engages an increasingly vibrant and active research community.

SDHRC aims to improve the effectiveness and impact of the arts on the health and wellbeing of communities, and related policy and public services. This post will play a key role in delivering this ambition, providing support to researchers and projects related to applied health, mental health, or allied and public health. The postholder will work closely with Professor Persephone Sextou, Centre staff, and multi- professional teams within the NHS supporting income generation, research and knowledge exchange coproduction, by bidding with NIHR, MRC, AHRC, ARC KSS, etc in this area of strength in clinical settings. The role offers the opportunity for the post holder to transfer their experience and related knowledge from research in health to practical application and linking with arts industries, and healthcare organisations, professionals and users in the UK.

The Role

Reporting to Professor Persephone Sextou, (Centre Director), your responsibilities involve:

  • ensuring income generation
  • carrying out lead project management duties for SDHRC project(s) such as writing up funding applications and generating external income, design and delivery of studies, submitting ethics applications and leading data management and quantitative analysis – with support and oversight by the Director of SDHRC and/or Project Lead
  • ensuring work package activities, deliverables and outputs are completed on time and as per agreed project application expectations
  • liaising effectively with other project partner and external stakeholders as per requirements of the project and Project Lead’s guidance
  • managing and monitoring work undertaken by researchers of the SDHRC team, including design of the methodology, collection of data, analysis of data and writing up of results
  • leading and contributing to writing up of project reports to the stakeholders within the agreed deadlines, REF academic papers, commissioned book chapters and other related written communication for the needs of the project
  • carrying out other appropriate duties as assigned by the Director of SDHRC
