Do you have a strong grounding in mental health as the basis for teaching? Are you able to communicate complex concepts and enable learners to overcome obstacles in their development of knowledge and understanding? Do you have a practical understanding of the needs of diverse learners, including adults from communities that are under-represented in Higher Education (HE)?

The Lifelong Learning Centre (LLC) is concerned with widening participation at the University of Leeds, especially in relation to mature learners.

The Centre offers a Foundation Degree in Healthcare for Assistant Practitioners. This provision is designed for clinical support workers who are part of the non-registered workforce delivering health and social care in a range of settings. You must be able to help students to apply their learning to healthcare settings.

You will cover preparation, student support and marking as well as delivery of the module. Integration between academic and professional learning is a key feature of the programmes, as is support for participants in the acquisition of skills for success in higher education. You must have relevant experience of teaching adults at an HE level and a strong record of working with learners from diverse backgrounds both in teaching and personal tutorial roles. You must have a relevant first degree and an understanding of current policy, practice and research in the field of mental health.

Tutors are appointed on a pro-rata basis of a full-time contract per semester. You will be paid for 110 hours in total which includes preparation and marking as well as delivery.

Current teaching requirements are:

  • 13 x 2 hour sessions over 7 week blocks – 2nd year Assistant Practitioners
  • 3 x 2 hour sessions – 1st year Nursing Associates & 1st year Assistant Practitioners
  • 3 x 2 hour sessions – 2nd year Nursing Associates
