This is an exciting opportunity for a registered dental hygienist to join our team. We are seeking to appoint an innovative and experienced dental hygienist as a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer to lead the development of our new pre-registration dental hygiene degree.

The Department is one of four Departments in the School of Human and Health Sciences and currently offers a wide range of excellent educational provision across six allied health professions, midwifery, public health and sport. It’s home to a large number of apprenticeships, pre-registration and post-graduate courses. From 2025, the Department intends to also offer courses in dental hygiene and diagnostic radiography making this a particularly exciting time to join the School.

The University of Huddersfield is a thriving university and our excellent facilities are expanding from September 2024 with state-of-the art teaching, research and clinical facilities on the National Health Innovation Campus. Dental hygiene will be core to these new facilities from 2025.

We have a diverse student body and professional partnerships with health and social care and education partners. Huddersfield is a lively town, close to beautiful countryside and with excellent road and rail links to Manchester, Leeds, and Sheffield. In 2023, the University achieved TEF Gold award and its apprenticeship provision was graded as “Outstanding” by Ofsted.

You will bring subject expertise in dental hygiene and work with experienced academic and professional services colleagues to lead the development of a new dental hygiene course that is contemporary, future-looking and enables graduates to meet the challenges of service need. From September 2025, you will contribute to the delivery of the course to the inaugural cohort of students, who will learn within our new, purpose-built dental hygiene simulation facilities and dental clinic.

Commitment to an innovative student-centred learning experience is essential. With broad knowledge of contemporary oral health clinical practice and research, you will be registered with the General Dental Council as a dental hygienist and have post-registration clinical experience as a dental hygienist and/or dental therapist. You will hold a Masters qualification (or equivalent), or be professionally qualified and have commenced Masters-level qualification(s), such that you can complete a level 7 qualification in your first year of employment. You should have Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or have the capacity to obtain this within 12 months of appointment.

This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. Regular status checks may also be required, depending on your role.
