The School of Health and Social Care has an excellent reputation for teaching and research. Our academic members of staff include occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychological therapists, nurses, social workers, oral health practitioners and sociologists. The School is run over two campuses; Southend and Colchester. Academic staff are supported by a team of administrative staff based at both Colchester and Southend campuses.
The School has an excellent reputation for innovative educational delivery of a range of professional programmes in combination with an excellent research track record in social scientific approaches to the study of health, illness and wellbeing. The school offers a unique context for the development and application of novel approaches to the study of a range of health and social care contexts, all underpinned by a concern for understanding the wider social contexts in which health, illness and wellbeing are located. We aim for excellence in research and in education and are looking for candidates who can contribute to both.
The School is currently going through exciting changes and expansion, with an increase in student numbers, an intention to prepare for submission to Unit Assessment 3 (research focusing on Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy) for the next Research Excellence Framework (REF), and the introduction of new courses, including the new Speech and Language Therapy Apprenticeship, and Masters in Global Public Health. We are also expanding and building new and innovative areas for student study, including new clinical skills spaces specifically for our Speech and Language Therapy students, consultation rooms and study areas.
As part of this exciting expansion, we are now looking to make a number of appointments at Lecturer level. The areas of specialism we are particularly interested in attracting are phonetics, adult/acquired, dysphagia, motor speech, paediatric speech difficulties and LD.
