The University of Sheffield School of Nursing and Midwifery is seeking to appoint an external examiner for the above programme leading to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Nursing Associate.
The appointment will be from January 2019 for a period of 4 years.
The programme is currently delivered over 2 years under the apprenticeship framework. It was originally written under the HEE framework but has now been mapped against NMC Standards of proficiency for Nursing Associates.
There are currently 2 cohorts running or planned
- June 2018 – 2020 which the new EE will take over
- January 2019 – 2021 which the new EE will also take over
New cohorts are anticipated that will be based upon funding availability and HEE requirements.
There are four units of learning with theoretical assessments as follows:
- Unit 1 Theoretical Perspectives of Health and Nursing
- Unit 2 Patients with Acute and Short Term Needs
- Unit 3 Patients with Long Term and Complex Needs
- Unit 4 Team Project
As this is a programme intended to lead to registration with the NMC all work at level 1 will require scrutiny.
All students are assessed in practice using the NMC standards of proficiency and skills annexe for Nursing Associates and, as well as the assessment of competence, do have to maintain a portfolio of learning with evidence of exposure to a breath of placement opportunities and fields of nursing.
In addition to the review of theoretical assessments external examiners will be expected to engage with the assessment of practice, review APEL documents for applicants accepted onto the programme and attend the relevant examination boards.
Please be aware that some of the dates on the assessment calendars are short turnarounds.
