The School of Health & Social Care at the University of Essex is seeking to appoint an external examiner for our HS215 Introduction to Health Psychology module.
Students are offered the opportunity to develop knowledge and critical understanding of psychology applied to health/illness. The enrolment rarely exceeds 15 students (taught together but assessed separately).
The module is taught each spring term (19th January 2022 – 23rd March 2022).
15 credit option module is available to health related undergraduate programmes of study at the University of Essex (enrolment for assessment at level 5 or 6).
Coursework 100% of assessment (40 pass mark)
- Level 5 enrolment upload one x 2500-word essay
- Level 6 enrolment upload one x 3000-word essay
Deadline 28th April 2022 based on choice of question:
- Identify the strengths/weaknesses of Gate Control Theory of pain (Melzack & Wall, 1965) by critically considering what it reveals about pain and how pain is managed (you could focus on one pain-related)
- Identify the strengths/weaknesses of Transactional Theory of stress and coping (Lazarus & Folkman, 1987) by critically considering what it reveals about stress and how stress is managed (you could focus on one stress-related condition)
We would like to appoint an External Examiner who can enhance the quality of teaching and learning within the School and who is experienced in Health Psychology or a relevant field of expertise. Whilst applications from experienced External Examiners are preferred, we will also consider academics with appropriate educational and professional experience.
