The School of Health Sciences is seeking an External Examiner for our new Enhanced Clinical Practitioner Apprenticeship launching in January 2025.

1. About the programme:
The new apprenticeship programme will develop practitioners with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to provide a high standard of complex care for patients, using enhanced levels of clinical judgement. The Enhanced Clinical Practitioner Apprenticeship will offer three pathways:

  • PGCert Enhanced Clinical Practice
  • PGCert Enhanced Clinical Practice (Clinical Education)
  • PGCert Enhanced Clinical Practice (Paediatrics / Neonates)

2. Examiner responsibilities, regulations & requirements:
a) Responsibilities:
Examiner responsibilities include external moderation of assessments, completion of an annual monitoring report and attendance at Examination boards (at least one a year). The School uses an electronic marking system. Examiners are required to make use of the system during the external moderation process.

All appointments are subject to candidate(s) meeting the University’s criteria for appointment & agreement to undertake the required training for UoN examiners.

c) Requirements:
Applicants should have relevant academic and/or professional/clinical qualifications to at least the level of the qualification being examined.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified & experienced academic staff in the relevant area. Applicants should the hold appropriate academic qualifications, including, a teaching qualification (minimum PGCHE/equivalent) and a master’s or higher-level qualification in the relevant area, as well as the appropriate clinical experience. Applicants should be experienced healthcare professionals registered with the appropriate professional regulatory body (NMC, HCPC, GPhC).

This post requires you to understand the Enhanced Clinical Practitioner (ECP) Degree Apprenticeship occupational standard & end-point assessment plan & ideally have experience of provision of an apprenticeship programme.

Experience of external examining is preferable, support & guidance can be supplied for those new to the role.

The role starts immediately & will be for a period of 4 years, reviewed annually.
