External Examiner – BSc(Hons) Midwifery Studies

The University is seeking to appoint an external examiner for its BSc (Hons) Midwifery Studies Course (September and March Cohorts) and our Examination of the New-born Course (M level).

Start date: 21/09/2020
Closing date: 23/03/2020

Our BSc (Hons) Midwifery Studies Courses are full time three year degree courses. The courses have an annual intake of around 75 students. An external examiner is now being sought due to end of tenure being reached by the previous post holder. Below are the modules requiring external examination.

Level 5 / Intermediate

  • HIM1009 Developing skills and competence in midwifery practice (practice module)
  • HIM1010 Supporting women with complex needs in pregnancy and childbirth
  • HIM1011 Public health aspects of midwifery practice
  • HIM1001 Evidence based midwifery practice

Level 6 / Honours

  • HHM1022 Preparing for effective midwifery practice (practice module)
  • HHM1023 Preparing for parenting
  • HHM1024 Promoting normality in complex situations
  • HHM1025 Midwifery Research Project

The new post holder will be required to examine all Intermediate and Honours level modules (alternating between the 2 levels).

We are also seeking to appoint an External Examiner for our Examination of the New-born Course. This is a Masters level module which runs over the duration of one academic year.

Written assessments are submitted electronically via Grademark and Turnitin. External examiners will be required to use the online moderating process. User guides and support will be made available.

External Examiners will be appointed for an initial term of office of up to four years and will receive an induction pack when they are first appointed.

Person Specification:

Essential: Working in a UK HEI with no formal educational links with the University of Huddersfield in the last 5 years, Current registration as a midwife with the NMC including a recordable teaching qualification, Masters Degree in an area related to one of the above subject areas, Demonstrable teaching experience in the above subject areas.

Desirable: Research and publications in related area, Recent external examiner experience.
