External Examiner – BSc Paramedic Science

The BSc Paramedic Science at City St Georges, University of London is seeking an External Examiner to start with immediate effect. The post holder will work alongside our two current External Examiners in assisting with the continued quality assurance of our 3-year undergraduate programme.

Our university offers a uniquely diverse range of paramedic teaching staff, state-of-the-art simulation facilities and placement opportunities with the UK’s busiest ambulance service, alongside placement opportunities in other relevant clinical settings. The programme is also endorsed by the College of Paramedics and is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Suitable candidates will:

  • Be currently employed in Higher Education
  • Have relevant experience in designing and delivering paramedic science education
  • Have experience in designing and quality assuring assessments at undergraduate level
  • Have previous External Examiner experience (desirable but not essential)
  • Be a UK resident and have the right to work in the UK.
  • Hold current registration with the HCPC as a paramedic.

Duties will include:

  • Moderating samples of essay scripts and other assessed materials, including objective structured practical exam (OSCE) video footage and clinical practice documents
  • Advising the programme team on the content and standard of assessments
  • Completion of module reports and a yearly programme report.
  • Liaising with other External Examiners for the BSc Paramedic Science programme
  • Attendance at the Board of Examiners

The successful applicants will be paid a standard university fee and any reasonable travel expenses. All appointments are subject to the candidate meeting the university’s criteria for appointment. The appointment will normally be for a period of 4 years.
