External Examiner for BSc (Hons) Pre-registration Nursing (Children’s Nursing), University of Cumbria

The University of Cumbria is looking to appoint an experienced and suitably qualified academic to act as External Examiner for our Pre-registration Children’s Nursing programme from September 2020.

The Department of Nursing Health and Professional Practice is well established, and has recently become part of the new Institute of Health at the University. Consequently we have been developing our current curriculum, and have been successfully validated and delivering a programme in line with the NMC Standards for Education, from September 2020, providing a unique opportunity for the successful applicant to be involved from the start.

Applicant Requirements for consideration include being registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and have relevant experience of working in Children’s nursing practice settings as well as teaching on a pre-registration nursing programme.

S/he will work alongside other external examiners across all four fields of nursing practice, to review a number of modules within the pre-registration mental health nursing programme. This will include modules delivered at levels 4-6, with the potential of some of the modules being shared between fields.
Ideally, the external examiner will have had experience of external examining (Although first time candidates will be considered and offered support and induction on commencement).

The External Examiner will be expected to attend the module assessment boards, consider student work and contribute to the overall assessment process. We also like to provide opportunity for access to some of our placement facilities to meet with students

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced academic staff. All appointments are subject to the candidate meeting the University’s criteria for appointment.

The appointment will be with effect from September 2020 and will be for a period of 4 years. Further information about the programme or to apply, please submit your Curriculum Vitae to: The Programme Lead for Undergraduate BSC Nursing Programme (Details Below).
