The School of Healthcare is seeking an external examiner for its BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) programme with effect from November 2024.
The BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) is a full-time programme with a variable intake of between 90-120 students each cohort. The role includes responsibility for several field specific modules and some cross nursing modules (Child and Mental Health).
We are seeking to appoint an individual who has a master’s degree or PhD; a strong background in pre-registration education; a track record of scholarly activity; current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and who is working within a Higher Education institution. Previous experience of acting in the role of external examiner is desirable but not essential.
The tenure of appointment is for a period of four years. All external examiner appointments are subject to approval by the Faculty Taught Student Education Committee. The successful candidate will have access to an on-line training course to familiarise themselves with the role at Leeds and have the opportunity to meet the teaching team; additional support is available for those who have not undertaken the role before.
There is a two tier examination board system comprising of Module Assessment Boards and School Progression and Awards Board (SPAB). All external examiners are full members of these committees and are required to attend at least one meeting of the SPAB per year and be available for consultation on assessment and curriculum issues.
The School uses GradeMark to mark assignments and the external examiner will be required to view students’ work and markers’ comments on-line.
Anyone wishing to be considered is invited to submit an expression of interest and detailed Curriculum Vitae outlining employment history, qualifications, teaching experience, research/scholarly activities, a brief statement supporting the application, NMC PIN and any previous external examining activity by 16 August 2024 to:
