Bournemouth University is urgently seeking to appoint an External Examiner/External Assessor for our Registered Nursing Degree Apprenticeships to start as soon as possible for Level 4 units only from appointment to September 2025. We would then like the External Examiner/External Assessor to cover units at all levels from September 2025 onwards for a period of four years.
The fee paid to External Examiners per year is £450 and External Assessors per year is £450. The University provides an External Examiner Induction/Briefing seminar in November and March each year to support those new to external examining and experienced External Examiners.

The ideal academic candidate for this post will have previous experience as an External Examiner and External Assessor in nursing apprenticeships (although support will be provided to exceptional candidates without this prior experience) and should be currently active in educational delivery and research within the field of adult nursing.
As External Examiner, your duties would include:
- External moderation of a range of assignments
- Review proposed assessment briefs to determine their appropriateness
- Visit to BU to look at resources and meet staff and students
- Submission of an annual report to the Academic Quality department
- Attendance at Assessment Boards online
- Advising on matters such as programme review and/or modifications
As External Assessor, your duties would include:
- Assess the EPA plan and how this is delivered in practice
- Assess standards in an effective manner, identify good practice and recommend enhancements to enable informed EPA development
- Assess/observe the management of gateway
- Assess the assessment instruments/methods
- Assess/observe the reliability and comparability of EPA
- Assess the accessibility of EPA and the management of reasonable adjustments
- Assess/observe assessor standardisation or moderation meetings
- Produce an external assessor report
