Wrexham University in Northeast Wales is looking to appoint an External Examiner for our three-year, undergraduate Speech and Language Therapy degree programme that launched in September 2022. We are a small, commissioned programme with an average of 14 students in each cohort. We are therefore seeking one external examiner for the whole programme. A summary of our modules can be found here Speech and Language Therapy – Wrexham University
Applicants must have subject expertise, experience and relevant qualifications in teaching, learning and assessment in higher education at Levels 4-6. Previous external examining experience is desirable but not essential, as a mentor can be provided.
Principle duties will include:
- Reviewing assessments
- Moderating work twice a year
- Attending assessment boards (June/July)
- Commenting on new programme and module specification proposals
- Writing an annual External Examiner report
All appointments are subject to meeting the University’s criteria. The approval process is independent of the teaching team.
Your data will be held and not processed for any purpose other than that for which it has been obtained, in accordance with current Data Protection Legislation, until this recruitment process has concluded. Should you be unsuccessful in your application, your data will be destroyed securely.
We have current or ongoing involvement with Cardiff Metropolitan University and Leeds Beckett University, so we cannot recruit from these institutions.
This is an exciting time to input as a critical friend, as a revitalised curriculum is currently in development ahead of a revalidation event in March 2027. We are a small, friendly and supportive team and are happy to chat if you have any questions before applying.
External Examiners will receive a basic annual payment of £500. This basic fee may be supplemented where additional duties are undertaken, such as examining additional programmes, partner provision, online programmes, mentoring another External Examiner, or undertaking Chief External Examiner responsibilities.
