External Examiner – Non-Medical Prescribing Course

The University of Bedfordshire, School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Education is seeking to appoint an external examiner for the Non-Medical Prescribing Course.

This is a part-time short course Unit (30 weeks) which extends over two semesters each year. It adopts a work-integrated approach to learning which facilitates the application of theoretical learning within the workplace. Students are required to attend periods of theory-based learning, followed by periods of practice-based learning at various local NHS Trust and Private Health Sector Providers. There are approximately 25 students per intake (September and January).

We are seeking to recruit someone who is a registered nurse that has the V300 Nurse Prescriber’s recordable qualification on the NMC database with experience of delivering such a course, as this is the majority of our professional applicants for the course. Though consideration will be given to HCPC candidates with a similar experience and recordable qualification. Whilst external examiner experience is desirable, we also welcome expressions of interest from individuals new to this role. The successful candidate will be offered an induction programme and will be supported throughout the duration of their tenure.

You will be asked to attend approximately 2 academic boards per year. The specific remit includes review of units at academic level 7.

The term of office for the successful candidate will be for a period of 4 years from September 2025.

Please note that all External Examiner appointments are subject to approval by the University’s External Examiner Committee.
