We are seeking an External Examiner to join our Nursing Associate programme (apprenticeships and direct entries). This role is an important part of maintaining academic standards, supporting high quality learning, and ensuring fairness and consistency across our assessment processes.
About the Role:
The External Examiner will be responsible for reviewing a range of modules within the Nursing Associate programme, including both academic and practice based assessments. The role includes:
Reviewing assessment briefs, marking, and moderation processes
Providing feedback on the quality, standards, and fairness of assessments
Attending at least one Assessment Board per year (online attendance is usually possible)
Contributing an annual report outlining findings and recommendations
Offering constructive external insight to support programme development
Essential Criteria:
We welcome applications from colleagues who:
- Hold a professional registration with the NMC
- Have experience teaching or assessing Nursing Associate students or similar healthcare programmes
- Are currently employed in UK higher education
- Have not held an External Examiner role with us in the past five years
- Have no conflicts of interest (e.g., recent employment, collaborative partnerships, or close professional relationships with staff or students)
Term of Appointment:
The appointment is for two years, beginning Sept 2026, subject to standard approval processes.
The role typically requires approximately 12–15 hours per year, which includes:
- Reviewing assessment materials and samples
- Preparing comments and feedback
- Attending the Assessment Board
- Completing the annual report
