External Examiner – BSc (Hons) & MSc Mental Health Nursing apprenticeship and non-apprenticeship pathways

The University of Bedfordshire, Faculty of Health, Community and Life Sciences is seeking to appoint external examiners to review the BSc (Hons) and MSc courses in Mental Health Nursing. We offer both direct entry and apprenticeship courses.

The University of Bedfordshire’s School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Education is seeking to appoint external examiners to the above courses. We have one intake of BSc (Hons) in September and one MSc intake in February. We offer these courses as an apprenticeship and direct entry route.

We are keen to recruit an academic with NMC registration as a Mental Health nurse as well as appropriate experience working in a higher education setting of developing, teaching and assessing mental health nursing courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Whilst external examiner experience is desirable, we also welcome expressions of interest from individuals new to this role.

The successful candidates will be offered an induction programme and will be supported throughout the duration of their tenure. New external examiners will be offered a mentor to support them in this role.

You will be invited to attend approximately 3 academic boards per year. You will also be invited to observe practical assessments (such as OSCEs) and visit students within practice areas. The specific remit includes review of units at academic level 4 to 7 contributing to the above awards.

The term of office for the successful candidate will be for a period of 4 years from appointment in September 2026.
