The School of Healthcare is seeking an external examiner for its 3-year BSc (Hons) Midwifery (Blended Degree) programme. The appointment will be with effect from the beginning of the 2025/2026 session.
The BSc (Hons) Midwifery programme is an exciting and innovative programme that commenced in September 2021 as one of only 4 blended midwifery degrees in England supported by NHS England. The programme employs a range of creative and innovative teaching and assessment methods and attracts students from a diverse range of backgrounds due to its flexible approach.
We are seeking to appoint an individual who has a master’s degree or PhD; a strong background in pre-registration education; current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Registered Midwife and who is working within a Higher Education institution. Previous experience of acting in the role of external examiner is desirable but not essential.
The tenure of appointment is for a period of four years. All external examiner appointments are subject to approval by the Faculty Taught Student Education Committee. The successful candidate will be familiarised with the role at Leeds and have the opportunity to meet the teaching team; and additional support is available for those who have not undertaken the role before.
There is a two tier examination board system comprising of Module Assessment Boards and School Progression and Awards Board (SPAB). All external examiners are full members of these committees and are required to attend at least one meeting of the SPAB per year and be available for consultation on assessment and curriculum issues.
The School uses GradeMark to mark assignments and the external examiner will be required to view students’ work and markers’ comments on-line.
