External Examiner/Assessor for BSc (Hons) Operating Department Practitioner (degree apprenticeship) and End Point Assessment (ST0582)

The Department of Nursing, Midwifery & Health is seeking to appoint an External Examiner/Assessor for BSc (Hons) Operating Department Practitioner (degree apprenticeship) and End Point Assessment (ST0582). You will be lead examiner for the programme and moderate:

  • DA5014 Applied Operating Department Practice
  • DA5015 Developing Evidence Informed Operating Department Practice
  • DA5016 Pathophysiology in Operating Department Practice
  • DA5017 Developing Skills for Perioperative Practice
  • DA5018 Enhancing Clinical Skills for Perioperative Practice
  • DA6014 Advanced Operating Department Practice
  • DA6015 Integrating Evidence into Perioperative Practice Development
  • DA6016 Leadership & Management in Perioperative Practice
  • DA6017 Advanced Skills for Perioperative Practice
  • End point assessment

As external examiner you will be responsible for contributing to the quality assurance of the programme. You will be involved in approving assessment tasks, moderating student work, completion of an annual report and may be invited to attend exam boards. You may be asked to provide comments on proposed modifications and development of new modules.

Applicants should hold appropriate professional registration and academic qualifications. It is preferable to have previous experience as external examiner/assessor although support and guidance can be provided for those new to the role. Full course details and documentation will be provided on appointment.

As External Assessor you will operate in line with current External Quality Assurance of Apprenticeship End-Point Assessment for Integrated Higher and Degree Apprenticeships guidance (https://www.officeforstudents.org.uk/publications/external-quality-assurance-of-apprenticeship-end-point-assessment-for-integrated-higher-and-degree-apprenticeships/). You will be involved in activities listed in section 44-48 of the guidance. Applicants should be independent of apprentices and the employing organisation.

  • For apprenticeship programmes: please ensure your relevant occupational experience & professional body registrations are evident;
    • A covering paragraph (max 500 words) outlining your suitability, noting any association with Northumbria.
