Appointment of:

  • External Examiner – Postgraduate and Graduate Certificates in Psychological Wellbeing Practice (full-time and apprenticeship variant, January and September starts)

The School of Health & Social Care at the University of Essex is seeking to appoint an external examiner for our Psychological Wellbeing Practice programme.

Trainee PWP’s will learn how to assess and support people with depression and/or anxiety using low intensity evidence-based interventions. Trainee PWPs will learn how to manage other issues commonly co-morbid with mental health problems such as long-term physical conditions. Trainee PWPs will also consider the impact of social issues and employment on wellbeing and gain a greater understanding of, and capacity to engage with, issues of culture and diversity within mental health.

The course will facilitate an understanding of mental health theory and practice and develop a critical knowledge of the theoretical and research literature relating to evidence-based interventions. The course will develop clinical skills to work as safe and competent practitioners within NHS Talking Therapies.

Postgraduate and Graduate Certificates in Psychological Wellbeing Practice: Level 6 and Level 7

  • HS932 Engagement and assessment of patients with common mental health problems
  • HS933 Evidence-based low-intensity treatment for common mental health disorders
  • HS934 Value, Diversity and Context

We would like to appoint an External Examiner who can enhance the quality of teaching and learning within the School and who is experienced in delivering health or social care professions’ education curricula. Whilst applications from experienced External Examiners are preferred, anyone with appropriate educational and professional experience would be considered.

The appointment will be for four years from Oct 25 and the commitment required is as follows:

  • To attend two examination Boards per year.
  • To submit the annual External Examiner’s Report and comment on the content of the subject area particularly regarding subject benchmarks.
  • To review coursework throughout the year and provide comments to ensure academic standards and achievements of students are comparable with those in other HEIs
  • Provide informative comment and recommendations on whether the assessment process measures student achievement rigorously and fairly against the intended outcomes of the course/s and is conducted in line with the relevant policies and regulations
  • Engage with the programme team in the continuous development of the programmes
