When did you first introduce the innovation?

Between 12 and 24 months ago

Please describe the innovation you have developed

A day timetabled in their programme where students are invited to attend UWS to receive detailed feedback about their modules from the teaching team. An opportunity to discuss the assessment , receive generic feedback and individual face to face feedback if they wish. This feedback is also backed up by individual feedback through TURNITIN. Previously the feedback had been more sporadic and many students did not come for feedback if they passed the module missing a valuable opportunity to feed forward to the next assignment.

What prompted you to develop this innovation?

Poor response to assessment and feedback in last year’s NSS but also to encourage students to reflect on their results and help feed this forward to other assessments.

In your view, what is it about this innovation that makes it different/important?

Assessment and feedback have always scored lower in NSS and it is obviously something that the students feel they need more support with.

To what extent does your innovation make use of existing approaches, resources or technologies?

It helps with reflection, which is embedded in health nursing and midwifery programmes.

To what degree has this innovation led to changes in education or clinical practice?

Encourage more open and transparent dialogue surrounding assessment with students which fits with the UWS Enabling Plan 2015-2020 priority of ‘Maximising staff and student engagement in a culture and environment of support and development’.

What evidence do you have of the impact of the innovation?

In the latest NSS assessment and feedback satisfaction has increased from 56.7% to 85.8%.

To what degree has the innovation been disseminated in your organisation or elsewhere?

Shared at team meetings.

Please provide details of any plans you have to disseminate the innovation in the future.

Further dissemination through UWS annual monitoring and enhancement channels.
