Joining the Council

The Council of Deans of Health is made up of 99 member universities in the UK engaged in education and research for nursing, midwifery and the allied health professions along with 7 associate members.

As a member of the Council of Deans of Health, you will join a community of leaders in health education who are committed to advancing the quality and relevance of healthcare education and research. Council Membership gives you and your organisation the opportunity to participate in national policy discussions, connect with other health education leaders, gain insights into best practices, and stay informed about key issues affecting the sector. Joining the Council of Deans of Health means being part of a collective voice that drives positive change in health education and the health workforce.

Our membership is institutional with each member organisation having two representatives, who are senior staff with strategic responsibilities for the allied health professions, midwifery and/or nursing. Normally the representatives are at dean or head of school (or equivalent) level but a number of our members also have more senior university roles, such as pro-vice-chancellor.

Membership Criteria

Full membership

Eligible Institution

an institution that holds university title and:

(1) provides education programmes within health and social care approved by a UK-based professional regulator, including but not limited to the Nursing and Midwifery Council and/or the Health and Care Professions Council, or

(2) is based in the UK and engaged in nursing, midwifery and/or allied health professions research in the disciplines of health, wellbeing and social care,

in the case of institutions falling within (2), their eligibility for categorisation as an Eligible Institution to be decided at the sole discretion of the Board.

Associate membership 

Associate membership may be offered to:

(1)   an institution outside of the United Kingdom that holds university title (or equivalent) and provides education courses approved by a professional regulator, or

(2)   an institution outside of the UK engaged in nursing, midwifery and/or allied health professions research or interdisciplinary research in the disciplines of health, wellbeing and social care, or

(3)   an organisation within or outside of the UK, not holding university title but which supports the aims and values of the Council.

Eligibility for Associate Membership to be decided at the sole discretion of the Board.
